Whether you&#8217;re planning your own display or joining the community at the city&#8217;s professional fireworks show, this comprehensive guide will help you navigate the rules and stay safe this holiday season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Restricted areas include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All areas west of 5600 West.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All areas within 200 feet of the Jordan River Parkway Trail east of 1300 West.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All areas within 200 feet of the area commonly referred to as Clay Hollow Wash that runs east and west in the area of 7800 South (approximately 4800 West to SR-111).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All areas within 200 feet of Bingham Creek, located near Old Bingham Highway running the length of the east\/west boundaries within West Jordan.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All areas within 200 feet of a canal.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All city parks unless a permit has been obtained for a professional display.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westjordan.utah.gov\/fire\/fireworks\/\">Read more and view the map on our fire page.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When Can Fireworks be Legally Discharged:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. beginning on July&nbsp;2nd and ending on July 5th;&nbsp; and beginning on July 22nd and ending on July 25th<br>*On July 4th and 24th time of discharge is extended to 12:00 midnight<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beginning at 11 a.m. on December 31 and ending at 1 a.m. on the following day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beginning at 11 a.m. the Chinese New Year\u2019s Eve, ending at 1 a.m. on the following day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What fireworks are allowed? What are the restrictions?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Class \u201cC\u201d Fireworks are what you can legally buy in Utah. Usually what is available in the stores or tents near you is legal. These fireworks are going to have 500g or less of pyrotechnic powder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you cross the border into a neighboring state and buy fireworks there, that doesn\u2019t mean they are going to be legal in Utah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These fireworks are always illegal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cherry Bombs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Roman Candles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Single Shot mortars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>M-80s<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mortars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Silver Salutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Firecrackers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skyrockets\/Bottle Rockets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In the restricted areas, it means no fireworks whatsoever. What may seem like tame or small fireworks like pop-its, sparklers and smoke bombs, are still not allowed.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to do to remain safe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are in an unrestricted area and decide to do your own fireworks, here are a few tips to keep you safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do not drink and light. Alcohol and fireworks are not good companions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep a water jug or hose nearby.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep a fire extinguisher nearby.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not put used or unused fireworks in the garbage can without fully cooling and dousing them in water or fire retardant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why are fireworks restricted?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are either in a place where fire crews can&#8217;t get to with their apparatus or it is very difficult to get people in with hoses and water. Other places are within a corridor that if the wind is blowing could push the fire into homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even in places where fireworks are allowed, the hazards don\u2019t disappear. In a perfect world, fireworks would behave like the label says, but they don\u2019t. That\u2019s why we have firefighters and safety measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fireworks are not only a fire hazard but also a safety risk. When safety rules are not followed is when people get hurt. There are always people calling 911 for burns and bodily damage from explosions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of West Jordan is putting on a professional fireworks show for Independence Day!
