Born and raised in West Jordan, Bevilhymer currently calls Las Vegas, Nevada home \u2013 but it isn\u2019t because of the hot weather. It\u2019s actually for the opposite &#8211; the ice!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Las Vegas is Bevilhymer\u2019s first home, the ice rink is a close second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was born with the bilateral club feet, so I didn&#8217;t participate in a lot of sports growing up,\u201d explained Bevilhymer. \u201cSled hockey was starting at recreation through Salt Lake County. I went and tried it and fell in love with it and here I am.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting a start in county-run recreational sports has led her all the way to a gold medal in the Women\u2019s Para Ice Hockey World Cup\u2026 three times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of her biggest supporters is her mom, Jamie Bevilhymer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe really is amazing,\u201d said Jamie Bevilhymer. \u201cHer first surgery was when she was three months old. She had 29 surgeries before having her leg amputated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After she had her last surgery \u2013 Hope Bevilhymer noticed a common theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a weird thing, but people started offering me their prosthetic legs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These questions and offerings of prosthetics, along with a documentary on third-world amputees, sparked an idea for Hope. That\u2019s where civic resources come in again. Bevilhymer went to a local library and registered her non-profit, Limbs of Hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She traveled to Cambodia and Romania, where she spent time delivering used prosthetics to victims of war crimes. After all that traveling and giving back, Bevilhymer decided to give her non-profit a nap and take on sled hockey full time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of my hockey coaches told me once, and it\u2019s really stuck with me\u2026\u201d said Bevilhymer. \u201cPlay with purpose, play with passion, and always have fun.
