Even though this was written before the Western Stampede occurred, by the time you read this, the Western Stampede will have concluded, the parade entries have returned home, and the fireworks show lit the sky. The Western Stampede festivities are a big part of living in West Jordan. As a council, we hope many of you and your families enjoyed attending and being a part of the city\u2019s festivities. Council Member Chris McConnehey has been involved in the Western Stampede for many years and stated, \u201cHaving lived in West Jordan my whole life, the city events have always been in the center of our family\u2019s celebration around the 4th of July. Today from my seat on the City Council I get to see how many people behind the scenes pour their heart and soul into events. We sincerely love our volunteers, community groups, sponsors and city staff that work all through the holiday to help their neighbors make lifetime memories. Thank you!\u201d<\/p>\n
Most of May and June for the City Council has been related to the city\u2019s budget. State law requires all city councils to adopt a balanced budget before the end of June. Once adopted, the new budget takes affect beginning in July.<\/p>\n
There has been some growth with new businesses coming into the city. The Council has continued strong funding for economic development to encourage business to come to the city. The Council has also funded additional purchases in technology to help the city and its staff be more efficient and modern and transparent. Council Member Kayleen Whitelock noted, \u201cThe city budget is really the resident\u2019s money and we, as a Council, take seriously our fiduciary duty in how it is allocated for the services the residents need such as Police, Fire, and Public Works.\u201d<\/p>\n
