More Than Just Changing Clocks: Essential Safety Checks for Daylight Saving Time
Get ready to SPRING your clocks FORWARD on March 9th!
Remember to check and adjust all your clocks to an hour FORWARD on March 9th, especially for work and school! Sometimes adults come in too early or late to work, and kids end up at school at the wrong hour! Spring is when our clocks move an hour later, so plan accordingly!
Six-Month Safety Checks
Twice a year we adjust our clocks for daylight savings – and it’s the perfect reminder to check your emergency alarms and supplies. Here are our top eight tips to help you stay prepared!
- Smoke alarms – Make sure your smoke alarms are ready to go by checking the batteries and making sure they’re working properly.
- Carbon dioxide alarms – Make sure your carbon dioxide alarms are working by checking batteries and functionality too.
- Emergency water supply – Check the quality of water in your storage barrels.
- Emergency food supply – Check expiration dates on your food storage, including your to-go and or car emergency kits.
- Clothing – Check clothing size and condition in your to-go bags to make sure everything still fits.
- Supplies in to-go bags – Evaluate your emergency kit supplies to see if anything needs to be changed out or added for the summer months.
- Roof evaluation – Spring is the perfect time to check your roof for leaks and damage, as well as monitor your rain gutters and downspouts for damage and clogging.
- Insurance Review – Sit down with your insurance agent to make sure you know exactly what’s covered—and what’s not.
**Renter friendly advice – Smoke alarms work best if there is one in every room in your home. If you are renting, you can install alarms with removable adhesives so you won’t damage the ceiling or walls.
