8600 South Bridge Opening Delayed

The City of West Jordan is committed to the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors. The opening of the new bridge above Mountain View Corridor on 8600 South has been delayed due to the discovery of hairline cracks in the cap of one support column during final inspection. While these cracks are barely noticeable to the naked eye, concern for public safety necessitated a comprehensive review by a third-party engineering firm, under the direction of UDOT.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to resolving this issue swiftly and effectively. The engineering firm responsible for the design of this bridge has taken full responsibility and is currently developing a remediation plan. We anticipate the additional work will take place this fall, with rigorous inspection to follow. It will remain safe to drive on Mountain View Corridor under the bridge during the construction and remediation process.

We’re confident in the successful completion of this project, and assure the community that this delay, while affecting our ability to ease local traffic flow, will not have a financial impact on the city.

We understand this delay is disappointing to those looking forward to utilizing this new bridge. We remain committed to opening the bridge as soon as possible, with safety as our highest priority. We will keep you updated on construction progress and provide a new opening date once the remediation work and testing are complete.
