Flooding Forces Closure of Jordan River Trail Under 7800 South
(West Jordan) – Due to high water levels of the Jordan River from ongoing water releases out of Utah Lake, the trail under 7800 South will be closed until further notice. This is necessary to ensure the safety of trail users.
Salt Lake County continues to release water from Utah Lake into the Jordan River, adding 800 to 1,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) to the river system through July. As a result, the water levels have risen to unprecedented heights, making it unsafe to keep this portion of the trail open.
Trail users are asked to please use the detour in the meantime by accessing Gardner Village, crossing at 7800 S., and connecting back with the trail near the Historic Gardner Station.
We understand the inconvenience this closure may cause. Once the water levels recede, the city will conduct a thorough cleanup and assess any potential reconstruction needs before reopening.
To alert trail users, we will be installing additional “Closed” signs alongside existing warning signs.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Please stay updated through our city website and social media channels for any further developments regarding the trail closure.
