What is the holiday garbage and recycling collection schedule?
Containers are picked up on all holidays except for Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. If your collection date falls on one of these holidays, your pickup will be one day later. The following week will be back to the regular schedule. Learn more about solid waste services.
How do I sign up for garbage removal service?
You can sign up for services by completing and submitting the online application. You can also sign up for service in person in the Finance Department at City Hall, 8000 S. Redwood Road.
When should I have my container on the street?
Please have your container on the street before 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Containers should be placed away from overhead obstacles like tree branches or wires and placed 4′ apart from other containers and 8′ from mailboxes, poles, fences, trees, or parked vehicles.
What if I have more trash than I can easily fit in my trash can?
Large dumpsters (8’ wide x 25’ long x 5’ tall) are available Monday through Saturday, to residents with a West Jordan utility account for a nominal rental fee. Charges will be applied to the resident’s utility bill the month the dumpster is delivered.
The following items are NOT allowed in rental dumpsters: Lithium-ion batteries, mattresses, box springs, railroad ties, concrete, dirt, rocks, toxic, hazardous or otherwise flammable materials (pesticides, herbicides, solvents, chemicals, paints, motor oil, gasoline, etc.), tires, batteries, dead animals, liquid or septic loads. Refrigerators, tanks, drums and barrels of any kind are also prohibited. Abandoned or discarded automobiles, motorcycles, scooters and motorized vehicles are prohibited in dumpsters.

When does green waste collection run and what can go in the green waste can?
The Green Waste program begins on the first Monday in April and ends on the last Friday in November. Place only loose yard clippings in the container. Request an additional green waste can here.
What can I do if I have too many leaves to fit into my green waste can?
- Request a green waste dumpster. Dumpsters (8′ wide x 25′ long x 5′ tall) are available Monday through Saturday, to residents with a West Jordan utility account for a nominal fee. Charges will be applied to the resident’s utility bill the month the dumpster is delivered.
- Drop bagged leaves into the dumpsters at Salt Lake County parks. The closest county parks to West Jordan residents are located at 6641 S. Cougar Lane and 6170 Lodestone Ave in Kearns.
(City parks do not have dumpsters available for leaves.) - Place leaves in your regular trash can.
- Take them to the Trans-Jordan Landfill at 10473 S. Bacchus Highway. Please contact Trans-Jordan Landfill for more information at 801-569-8994.

What day is my regular trash collection day?
When are the document shredding and e-waste recycling events?
West Jordan residents can bring up to two “bankers boxes” of paper for shredding and residential electronic waste four times per year during the city’s recycling events: typically the first Saturdays of February, May, August, and November from 10 a.m.-noon at the West Jordan Public Works Building 7960 S. 4000 W. Hard drives can also be shredded if they have been removed from the computer. Unfortunately, televisions, CRT monitors, cracked LCD’s and printers are not accepted.
