The City of West Jordan is widening 7800 S. between Highland Loop Dr. and 6700 W. This project will add an additional lane in each direction.
This project will be completed in three phases
- Phase 1: Utility and Infrastructure Improvements
(January 2024 – Summer 2024) - Phase 2: Road widening and construction.
(Late Summer 2024 – Late Fall 2024) - Phase 3: Restoration and final checklist.

What should I expect in terms of traffic impact during construction?
While we’re working on improvements, there might be some adjustments to traffic patterns. Look out for signs indicating alternative routes to make your journey smoother.
When will the project be completed, and what are the anticipated benefits?
We anticipate completing the project by summer 2025, though construction progress depends on weather and equipment availability. The project aims to enhance traffic flow for those traveling east and west in our city.
What to Expect During Construction
- Work Hours: Most work will take place Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Some tasks may extend to Saturdays or overnight hours.
- Traffic Flow: One lane in each direction will remain open. Expect lane shifts and slower speeds in the area.
- Business Access: Businesses will remain accessible throughout the project.
- Pedestrian Sidewalks: Temporary pedestrian sidewalk closures may occur.
- Construction Impacts: Expect some noise, dust and vibration during the work.
Phase 2 Project Updates:
December 2024
Crews will be going on winter suspension from December 21st to early April (pending weather). Crews will return to active construction Spring 2025.
Due to additional utility work, Rocky Mountain Power will continue active construction from January – February 2025.
6400 West Intersection:
- Crews are placing temporary pavement this week and will return in Spring 2025.
- Crews are continuing to install highway lighting foundations this week.
- During the winter suspension, right-turns will be re-opened at the 6400 South intersection.
- Traffic control barriers will remain in place at 6400 West throughout the winter suspension. Drivers should reduce speeds and use caution while traveling through the area.
5600 West to 6400 West:
- Crews will finish pouring sidewalk this week.
- Crews continue to install highway lighting foundations this week.
- In the interest of safety, left turns onto Fallwater Drive will continue to be restricted throughout the winter suspension. Please use alternate routes.
Due to additional utility work, active construction will continue through the winter. Traffic control will remain in place through spring 2025 and one lane in each direction will be maintained.
6400 West Intersection:
- Crews are continuing to pour sidewalk through mid-December.
- Rockwall construction is underway at the south-west side of the 6400 West intersection through December.
- Crews continue to install signal and highway lighting foundations through mid-December.
5600 West to 6400 West:
- Crews are continuing to prep and pour sidewalk through mid-December.
- Crews continue to install highway lighting foundations through mid-December.
- Left turns onto Fallwater Drive are restricted.
November 2024
Due to additional utility work, active construction will continue through the winter. Traffic control will remain in place through spring 2025 and one lane in each direction will be maintained.
6400 West Intersection:
- Crews have paved the first layers of asphalt ahead of the winter months and will return in the spring to complete paving.
- Drivers should anticipate lane shifting while paving operations are underway.
- Crews are preparing to pour sidewalk and continuing through early December.
- Rockwall construction is underway at the south-west side of the 6400 West intersection.
- The northern and southern sides of 6400 West are closed for roundabout construction work.
- Crews will install signal and highway lighting foundations through December.
5600 West to 6400 West:
- Crews have paved the first layers of asphalt ahead of the winter months and will return in the spring to complete paving.
- Crews will install signal and highway lighting foundations through December.
- Left turns onto Fallwater Drive will continue to be restricted through the winter and into spring 2025.
October 2024
6400 West:
– Crews are scheduled to pour curb and gutter at 6400 West the week of October 21st and prep the road for paving the week of October 27th. Paving at 6400 West is scheduled to occur the first week of November.
5600 West to 6400 West:
– The week of October 21st, crews are scheduled to finish prepping curb and gutter between 5600 West and 6400 West for curb and gutter installations at the end of the same week.
Crews are scheduled to prepare for asphalt paving the week of October 27th and anticipate beginning paving operations the first week of November.
September 2024
This weekend through early next week, portions of 7800 South will be closed between 5600 West and Bacchus Highway to accommodate milling and paving work.
7800 South (5600 West – Highland Loop Road) | September 14 – 16: 7800 South between 5600 West and Highland Loop Road will be closed this Saturday morning at 6AM through Monday morning at 6AM. Access to businesses will remain open at the roundabout and via 5600 West. Please follow posted detours or find alternate routes.
7800 South (6400 West – 6700 West) | September 15 – 17 | Nightly from 7PM – 6AM: 7800 South between 6400 West and 6700 West will be closed this upcoming Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights from 7PM to 6AM. Please watch for uneven pavement and use alternate routes via 8200 South while the nighttime closures are in place.
August 2024
Fallwater Dr. | August 26 – Mid-October: To accommodate roadway widening, left turns onto Fallwater Dr. will be restricted and there may be shoulder closures.
6400 W. | August 26 – Mid-October: To accommodate roundabout construction, the northern and southern sides of the 6400 W. intersection will be closed. The northern side will remain accessible to emergency vehicles.
7800 S. (5600 W. to Copper Rim Dr.) | Late September – Early October: To accommodate milling and paving work this fall, 7800 S. between 5600 W. and Copper Rim Dr. will be closed over a weekend.
On August 5, construction began on 7800 South between 5600 West and 6700 West to widen the corridor and add an additional lane each side.
· Curb, gutters, sidewalk and landscaping will be removed to prepare for widening activities
· This fall, 7800 South will be excavated and paved, and new curb and gutter will be poured
· Work will pause over the winter months and resume in the spring.
· This project is anticipated to be complete by summer 2025.
While traveling through the area, anticipate lane shifting and reduce speeds. Business access will remain open.

July 2024
Utility Construction Complete:
Utility work ahead of full road construction is complete. Widening work on the project will begin late summer/early fall 2024 and will continue through summer 2025. Final completion will be dependent on weather conditions.
April 29, 2024
Road Closure Ahead:
Mill and paving work will close the intersection of 7800 S and 5600 W starting Thursday, May 2nd at 7 AM.
The intersection will be closed in all directions and only allow for right turns. (Drivers going east will be able to drive straight through the intersection. See detour map.) This work is expected to take 24 to 48 hours.
Please plan accordingly and avoid the area if possible.
Jan 28, 2024
Crews will enforce a complete shutdown of the intersection at 7800 S and 5600 W overnight to start the installation process of a new sewer line. The road is expected to be completely shut down on January 28th at 8 PM and partially reopen on January 29th at 5 AM. Please avoid the intersection and follow posted signs for detours.
